The research focus of LEAP Lab (Light Engineering and Applied Photonics) is interdisciplinary in nature. It addresses the challenges in biomedical diagnostic devices, including microscopic and macroscopic investigations of cells and tissues. It is a convergence of advancements in the field of optical, thermal, and acoustic modalities with clinical diagnosis.

The emphasis is on developing novel optical tools for intraoperative cancer margin assessment and diagnosis of disease (breast cancer and heart valve disorder).

The broad research focus areas are as follows:

  1. Optical Techniques for Cancer Margin Assessment

  2. Hybrid Opto-Thermal-Acoustic (OTA) Characterization for ex-vivo and in-vivo Clinical Diagnosis

  3. Bio-inspired Optical Materials and Devices
