Modeling Optical Physics using COMSOL Multiphysics (I-STEM, IISc Bangalore) (2022)(Available Online):
Part 1: Introduction to Optical Modeling: In this section, we introduce to the GUI, and how can you model a planewave electromagnetic field in a slab of air media.
Part 2: Optical Waveguide, Fibers, Couplers: In this section, we discuss how a specifc type of mode, which can be a fundamental or higher order model can be propagated through a dielectric media.
Part 3: Optical Fiber Modeling (Mode Analysis) and Plasmonics: In this section, we talk about how to find different modes of the optical waveguide, by performing the mode analysis on the transverse cross-section of the optical waveguide.
Part 4: Optical Scattering using Scattering Field Formulation: In this section, we introduce the scattering field formulation, to illuminate a new background field variable and evaluate the scattered field due to any scatterer such as a gold nano particle. This approach enables us to find the microscopic scattering parameters such as absorption cross section and extinction cross section.
Part 5: Multiphysics Analysis: Multiphysics Analysis between Optical, Thermal, and Structural: In this section we learn about the boundary conditions how we can couple multiphysics analysis between optics, thermal, and structural physics.
Part 6: Introduction to Ray Optics Module: Lens System Design
Part 8: Ray Optics: Dispersion Analysis using Prism: In this video, we show how to model ray optics model using dispersive media using Prism. We shine a broadband light source and let it pass through a prism to show the rainbow pattern.
Part 8: Ray Optics: Light Tissue Interaction with Henvey Greenstein Volumetric Scattering: In this video, we show how we can model the volumetric scattering in COMSOL Multiphysics using the Henvey Greenstein formulation. We show how the bulk properties such as absorption coefficient and scattering coefficient can be correlated to the microscopic parameters such as scattering cross section, extinction cross section,a nd number density, the parameters that COMSOL understand. A nice alternative to the Monte Carlo Approach.
